YZF600r sports tourer a good beginner bike?

Looking at a Yzf600r tomorrow. Looks well kept and in my price range.

From what I understand it's a detuned r6 engine in a sports tourer package. Is it that much different from a R6? I know the sentiments against starting on 600cc, but I see bikes like the Suzuki Katana 600 not get so many down votes as a starter

Just wondering the opinions if I should go for the YZF600 or keep looking for a SV650S, which are hard to find.
