What happened to my caterpillar :(

Was playing air hockey with my caterpillar as usual last night (his name's Paul). But by the end of it, he seemed weirdly tired. I tucked him in a bit earlier than normal, gave him some chocolate milk, and kissed him goodnight. But when I woke up, this thing was in Paul's bed. What did he do with Paul??? Did he eat him?? I'm very concerned for my friend. We've been friends since 8 grade and I don't know what I'd do without him :(
