what are we growing this year?
Just wondering what everyone is wanting to grow this year? Our garden has been more of a hobby garden, but I want to try to use it more efficiently this year. Last year I bought our produce almost exclusively from the farmer's market, and plan on doing so again this year. Based on that, I've been trying to plan to fill in the gaps of what I know is typically available at the farmer's market--so I'm not growing really popular items like tomatoes, mint, and zucchini etc.
For my spring planting, I'm doing lettuce, spinach, lots of radishes, carrots, peas, and rhubarb. For summer planting, we are doing bell peppers, jalepenos, butternut squash, okra, and cucumber. I'll also plant some companion herbs and flowers alongside these items. In the fall, I'll probably plant more leafy veggies, radishes and carrots again. The husband and I are going back and forth on corn. I want to start growing corn since we start introducing it as a grain replacement, he thinks it's going to be too much work to make it worth it to process the corn and everything. Let me know if you've done this before! I've also thought about popcorn as it's my favorite snack.
What are you guys growing? Anything you think I'm missing?
Bonus: we are also planting dwarf plum trees this year, but it will be a while before they bear fruit.
