Why do you think India lags behind China in overall development? Here's my opinion...

India got the independence before 3 years then China but in current period India is like 30-50 years back from China..

First of all China has gone too far ahead of India and it's not just one day magic or India's decline after Modi was elected as pm in 2014. China and India both got their independence at almost same time as I said earlier, But China got dictatorship and India adopted democracy. It's like Dictatorship vs Democracy.

Where they had prominent leader Mao Zedong who had great plans for China's future (I will tell you some of them below) and on the other hand we had Nehru (57 year old stubborn leader), who was totally unaware about how to lead the newly independent nation, a nation seen as a gold by invaders throughout history. He was PM for 16 years and 286 day & his big 5 blunders in my aspect was - 1. Taking Kashmir to UN 2. Article 370 3. China Policy (Hindi Chini bhai bhai) 4. Socialist Economics Refoms 5. Ignored military modernization and education system. This was Nehru's approach.

Mao’s Transformational Reforms:

  1. Five year plan(1953) - India also adopted this in 1951 but mismanaged the funds because India follows Soviet style planning but democratic governance, while China had Purely Soviet style centralized planning.
  2. Great Leap Forward (1958-1962) - People were encouraged to establish large-scale industries in their own backyards. Where India had License Raj which slowed growth and made dependent on import.
  3. One Child Policy(1979-2015) - This is very important for the growing nation, especially for a newly independent one. When it comes to India, people especially those belonging to one community, have been working like a machine for children from that time till today.
  4. Sez(Special Economic Zone 1980) - This played a role of massive industrialization. India passed SEZ act in 2005.
  5. Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) - During the revolution, students and professionals were sent to the countryside to work and learn. And India was struggling with post Indo-China war, Currency Devaluation (1966, taking loan from IMF&WB), Food crisis.

Yes, Indira Gandhi boosted India's growth through the Green Revolution, bank nationalization, nuclear tests, poverty programs, and strong foreign policy.

So, My point was India's lag behind China in economic growth is not just a recent issue but a consequence of past political and policy decisions made by democratically elected PM of India. Yes.. we will reach to the level of China, but it will take some time.🙏🏻
