Cyclists, please be careful.🦺
Yesterday, I was almost hit by a car. No one was hurt, and there was no damage to my bike or the car (if someone care). But the fear was so intense that I was shaking, and my heart was racing because I was too close to being injured.
I’m not going to stop commuting by bike, but I’m definitely going to brainstorm ways to make my rides safer. I also encourage you to think about how you can make your bike commute safer.
I’m in Los Angeles, and most of the time, the only thing between me and a car going 45+ mph is just some paint on the road. After cycling in Europe, riding in the U.S. feels more like a battlefield experience.
I’m going to order a safety vest and a brighter red light for my bike. I’ll also avoid riding during sunset as much as possible and stay off roads with speed limits over 45 mph.
I ride with a helmet. Always.
What else I can do?
