Reasons why people are having fewer kids - pregnancy and childbirth?

I'm sure you've all seen articles about the falling birth rate etc. They usually include many reasons like housing costs, climate change, women's education levels, opportunity costs, etc. (edited to add: these reasons are v important too)

But I rarely see people talk about that many women don't want to be pregnant, give birth and breastfeed. It's a reasonable thing to not want to do, and now we can read online (or watch!) in full detail just how harrowing it can be. Plus injuries. Or if they have one baby, they decide they don't want to do that again. And now it's more societally acceptable to opt out, and many do.

Does anyone else find it weird that that reason is not talked about in offical media? As for me, I would have been a dad, but not a mom.
