Forgotten Missing Children Cases back in 2015?

I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and lived there until the summer of 2015, when my family moved away. I was 13 years old during this time. I remember hearing about several children going missing all over the city of Omaha and some surrounding cities. It was all over the news, rumors were spread all over my school and there was a lockdown almost every other week, and my parents became more strict and protective.

Eight years later, I move back to Omaha, and not a single person remembers this happening. Even an old friend, who I specifically remember keeping me updated about the cases, doesn't remember this happening. My parents don't talk to me much anymore, but when I sent them messages about it, my dad says that he remembers it too. I've asked several people throughout the year and a half I've been back here, and not a single person remembers this.

I've tried to just do a simple google search, but I haven't found anything that seems to resemble the panic that I remember happening. Does anyone else living in the area remember this, too? If not, what could that mean for me? Many people who I've told about this have asked me if I dreamed it, but is that even possible? Could it be a sign of something more serious, like a mental illness?
