Coincidence?

Hey Reddit—random thought just hit me. What if Poppy/the doll is a horror twist on Chatty Cathy, Mattel’s 1960s talking doll? And Playtime Co. may be inspired by Mattel, right down to the founders’ names: Elliot Ludwig vs. Mattel’s real co-founder Elliot Handler.

The Evidence:

- Chatty Cathy had a pull-string voice box. Poppy’s lore involves “living” toys gone wrong.

- Both dolls have that uncanny vintage look—frilly dresses, wide eyes, curled hair.

- Mattel (founded 1945) and Playtime Co. both ruled the toy industry before collapsing into scandal. Handler vs. Ludwig? Too similar to ignore.

Even Mattel’s controversies (safety issues, occult rumors) mirror Playtime Co.’s experiments. Or is it just a coincidence?
