Metformin w/ Chronic Gut Issues / IBS-C / SIBO?
TL;DR: I'm a 26 y/o female with PCOS, SIBO, and terrible gut issues, mainly IBS / constipation, acid reflux, and severe bloating. I just started Metformin for cycle regulation / weight management about 2/3 weeks after treating my SIBO with antibiotics and am very concerned about the effects Metformin might have on my gut. If anyone with SIBO / GI issues has taken Metformin, for PCOS I would love to hear your experience.
After the SIBO treatment (antibiotics + a low fodmap diet) my gut issues and bloating worsened - my bloating became excrutiating and started to interfere with my daily life. After the failed SIBO treatment, I felt desperate for another solution. My GI told me to instead focus on weight management to get back to my baseline healthy weight (about 15 lbs lighter than my current weight). I mentioned I was perscribed Metformin for PCOS and he told me to try it. I'm only on day 2 of Metformin, but my bloating is the worst I've ever experienced. I'm nervous about the risks Metformin might have with throwing my gut further out of balance.
Has anyone here taken Metformin with previous gut issues? Would be grateful to hear anyone's experience
