Rat Race

I live in Canada and I'm sick of the grind. I'm sick of working not just because I need to do it to live but also because the expectation to work is so high. For 27yrs I busted my ass to get to a fairly comfortable life (own a modest house, have kids, little debt). Now I'm just busting my ass to keep it. We have a plan (dream) that in 5 years we want to move to Europe (wife has citizenship thru parents).

But I was wondering if it's any different? Are we just gonna fall in to the same routine of just work? Or is the whole work yourself to death a north American thing? Is it possible to just work a low stress living wage job anywhere?
