Don’t understand football and the teams

Kick offs were 2 days ago, I don’t understand how teams get chosen to go against. Is it randomized? I don’t understand football in general, 4 downs? Why are games 3 hr long. I played football like 3 times and could never understand it. All I know is tackle whoever has the ball
