Is their a reason why we call Ohio.. Ohio other than to mess with them?

I have never used osu and if I’m talking to someone in person who’s not from Michigan or Ohio I use Ohio state. But other than that it’s Ohio at all times. Is it just a Michigan thing or a deeper reason why we do it?
