Do we know what they needed the guardians for fighting against

I mean to be desperate enough to want to create creatures like arkveld and zoh shia. wyveria must have been fighting something very powerful. (Im not a lore guy so idk if their were hints in that or if i accidentally skipped some good dialogue)
