15M should I take whey protein?

Hi, as stated, I'm 15M and weigh about 88 KGs or 195 pounds (approx.). I'm about 165 cm tall, making me obese. I look fat and am fat.

I do close to no physical activity, I'm not a big fan of sports at all and barely leave my room. As embarrassing as it is, I'm basically the average reddit user that people make fun of. An unhealthy diet, composing of Mc Donald's few times a week, sugary drinks with that fast food, fried foods and overall a very low protein high carb diet.

Now, I want to lose weight. As the later years of my high school are approaching, I want to look presentable and just overall have a healthier lifestyle.

I've decided to make my own food from tomorrow instead of eating home cooked food or food from outside, which is usually low in protein. (Where I'm from, the diet is usually high in carbs and low in protein)

Now, my mom is strictly against whey protein. Why? She says it's hard on the kidneys, it has steroids and bla blah. Chemicals and all. She says I should at least make some efforts towards weight loss and show her that I'm committed to it instead of directly jumping to supplements. She's saying she'll only consult a dietician after a month of showing her that I'm committed to weight loss. However, are her claims true? Do I really don't need whey protein? If I had to estimate my daily protein intake, it would be around 25-30 grams on a good day. Any other advice regarding weight loss or anything related is much appreciated as well, thank you :D
