Trying to Figure Out If….*spoilers*

There is a significance between choosing the crucifix or gun when playing as Nick against zombie prequel dude? My original playthrough, I chose to shoot which causes him to hurt Nick but now trying to get the beat possible ending, I chose the crucifix but the same exact thing happens….zombie dude does pause for a second though.

Anyone know what this triggers or which one leads to a better ending?
