Which character are you defending like this?I'll go first.
I defend Dazai like this but not when his actions are actually wrong, when his character is unfairly hated. It is not bad for a character to make mistakes and not be always morally right and perfect, this is what gives depth to a character and makes them realistic. Some people in this fandom act as if he is a heartless charecter who chose to be a bad person and has not changed at all. While in reality he was just a child when he was in the mafia.A misguided child who didn't know what to do with the sense of emptiness he had and the torment he suffered because of it.
he’s just a child—a sobbing child abandoned in the darkness of a world far emptier than the one we’re seeing.(Odasaku/Dark era light novel) < Before Oda's death, Dazai did not ask him to tell him his last will but asked for his help. Oda was dear to him and at that moment he had just realized that he understood him too, so for the first time he asked for help from the only person he trusted. And now he is trying to be a better person.Whether consciously or unconsciously, he has changed and this is not a strange thing. If you take a wilted plant from a toxic environment into the sunlight, it will definitely be in a better condition and will grow OVER TIME.(not overnight) The purpose of all of his plans is to protect the rest. He is always the first person to be in danger because of his plans, he uses the help of people he can trust in order to defeat terrorists like Fyodor. I feel that sometimes people unfairly hate him because of his plans. Unlike Fyodor, Dazai doesn't just manipulate others. The difference between Dazai and Fyodor is that Fyodor doesn't care about anyone, he just care about his goals and uses other to advance his plans and then when he is done with them, he leaves them regardless of their condition. While Dazai acts somewhat opposite to him, a clear example would be Sigma. He didn't just use Sigma for his plans and in addition to advancing his plans, he really wanted to help Sigma (you can feel this in the manga more than the anime). He knew that if he left Sigma there, he would be killed later by Fyodor and Gogol.Or Atsushi, he was trying to prepare Atsushi with Akutagawa to defeat Fyodor, but in the meantime he also helped Atsushi escape from the nightmare of the orphanage headmaster(This is just my opinion but I feel like he really cares about Atsushi, besides Atsushi being an orphan and him trying to help orphans, over time he started to care about him as well.like When the headmaster died, he was there for Atsushi and tried to calm him down.)In general, Dazai uses his team to reach their common goal.In the end, I must say that these were my opinions and understanding of what I read in the story and wanted to share it with others.
