accutane for a 3rd time…?

I’ve always had really bad skin and lots of acne, so i got on accutane for the first time in august of 2022 and got off in march of 2023. Pretty much right away i started to get acne again, but not as bad as it had been before so I thought it was just “normal” acne. Then in early October of 2023 it started to get really bad again. By December of 2023 it was almost looking worse than the first time around, so i went back on accutane for a second time in January of 2024. I got off of it for a second time in August and my skin looked great! But for about the past month or so, my acne is starting to heavily flare up again. Not as bad as before (not yet anyways) but I can see getting worse almost daily.

My dermatologist said I could go back on accutane again If if wanted, and i said i would like to. (i think it’s very possible that it’s hormonal acne, but due to other health issues birth control/ spironolactone are not options for me)

I was talking to my parents about it and my mom does NOT like the idea of me doing it again. I was also talking to a few friends and they said that if they were me they wouldn’t do again either because “it’s so bad for your body” which is technically true, but both times i’ve been on it i’ve tolerated it exceptionally well and really didn’t have a ton of side effects other than dry lips.

My only true concern, is that it’s pretty expensive, we don’t have awesome insurance and i’m a broke college student trying to save up for an expensive medical procedure.

what would you do?
